Twitpic Timelines

Standard

As of today, Tuesday October 28th, the major social media site called Twitter made a big change to the appearance of their timeline. No longer is it necessary to click a link in order to view a picture on your timeline, pictures are automatically displayed on your timeline. This is a major change considering the fact that Twitter has never changed the appearance of their timeline.

Because this is a major change to the social network, it leaves one to wonder if their loyal users will like the change or get turned off about it. Some people are worried that they might be forced to see pictures that they don’t want to see, being that the pictures automatically pop up when scrolling through the Twitter newsfeed. And others worry that this will give way to display ads. Despite all the worries about the timeline reform, Twitter allows users to turnoff the setting of having picture automatically display.

I personally don’t use Twitter too often, but I have an account that I occasionally update. I think that is great that they applied this change to the Twitter timeline– because it’s less of a hassle for users to view pics that others share, but I also think that this makes Twitter more like social media sites like Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/) and Instagram (http://instagram.com/). Instagram only allows users to post pictures to their profile and Facebook allows users to post pictures, videos and texts to their profiles. Before the timeline update, Twitter users could only see text on their timelines– no videos, and in order to view a pic the user had to click a link. Because these other leading social media sites (Such as Facebook.com and Instagram.com) offer more to the user, i believe, its forcing Twitter to change in order to keep up– but will the users be able to keep up with Twitter?

Visit Twitter at (https://twitter.com/) to view the timeline changes. If you are already a user, sign into your account, or sign up and set up a new account.
