Instagram has become one of the leading social media platforms, allowing users to share pictures and videos with people they are socially connected to. Instagram recently announced they are planning on bringing advertisements to their social network. Unruly, which is a firm that tracks viral videos showed that this would be effective for Instagram because Instagram’s most shared videos are those created by brands. Unruly proved that entertainment videos were the most popular among Instagram audiences with MTV being the most shared brand. Marketers favor using Instagram for videos because Instagram has a huge audience of more than 150 million. The top 10 brands that have the most shared videos on Instagram for this month include NBA, Topshop, Starbucks, HBO among others.

I have no comment on branded videos being popular on Instagram. That’s great for those brands… and i understand why they would use Instagram videos as marketing tools… but what struck me as interesting is the mention of advertisements on Instagram. Personally, I really like Instagram. I have two accounts for crying out loud, but I don’t know how popular Instagram will be after they decide to introduce advertisements to the network. I only say this because it’s a known fact that people hate ads and commercials (unless their humorous of course.) Not to compare Instagram to Facebook, but let’s face it– after Facebook introduced all those ads to their network, Facebook’s popularity started decreasing. I guess you can say, I’m curious as to how they are going to bring advertisements onto Instagram and how they will hold on to their loyal users.
